The mission of the Denver boys of Leather is to provide leatherboys a forum to have fun, learn, educate, socialize, contribute, and support each other and their community.
The Denver boys of Leather is a group of self-identified leatherboys founded March 1, 2006. The term leatherboy is defined as broadly as possible with the intent of being inclusive, and boy not being based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, or appearance. Our purpose is to gather in brotherhood and boyhood, supporting our members and our community with respect and integrity.
Brothers, pledges, associate members, and community members meet monthly to discuss business topics, socialize, and enjoy educational opportunities such as demos and conversations. In addition to these monthly meetings, we frequently gather informally for social events and to support the Denver Leather community. The Denver boys of Leather is often asked by various title holders, non-profits, and community members for financial support. To support these requests, we fundraise by working beer busts at local bars several times a year. We also hold a yearly anniversary dinner to express our thanks and appreciation to our supporters. This event garners great community support and allows everyone an opportunity to socialize.
The Denver boys of Leather believe strongly in contributing to the greater community. Our most well-known and anticipated activity is a yearly trip to Build-A-Bear workshop during the holidays. This activity is open to the entire Colorado community and has an incredible turn out. In 2013, we donated 102 hand-made bears to local non-profits that work with abused children. This number has grown each of the last 7 years and we look forward to how many bears we can contribute in the future.
Most recently, the Denver boys of Leather received permission from Butchmanns, Inc., which oversees the national Leather Quilt, to create a Colorado Leather Quilt. Each group that participates in this project is required to create two panels - one to keep in Colorado and one to send to the national quilt. The Colorado Leather Quilt debuted at the Denver boys of Leather 8th Anniversary Dinner on February 22, 2014, with eighteen panels and many more groups and families interested in contributing.
This panel was created as a tribute to the Brothers we have lost. Our Brothers in Spirit are:
