Contests to identify Master/slave pairings to represent the Master and slave community began in 1989. Over the years a network of contests took shape with five Regional contests that feed into the International contest. The five regions are Southwest, Southeast, Northeast, Northwest, and the Great Lakes region. The Master/slave title is considered to be a teaching title.
The Colorado Master and slave contest was the first sanctioned state contest in the Southwest Region. Established in March of 2013, other Southwest Region states were soon to follow.
This contest celebrates the Master/slave dynamic and is a positive outreach to the community at large in an effort to promote, educate and build upon healthy Master and slave relationships. The contest is for pairings who self-identify as Master and slave or Owner and property, regardless of age, race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
Contestants must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have been in a declared Master/slave or Owner/property relationship for a minimum of one year prior to competing in the Contest. The Colorado Master and slave titles are not about a particular "look", dress, body type, gender or sexual orientation. There is no required set of protocols the winners are expected to follow.
At all three levels of competition; state, regional and international, the contestants are judged in five categories:
- Master/slave dynamic
- Interview with the Judges
- Class Presentation
- On stage speech
- On stage pop questions
The judging is designed to identify pairs with the ability to teach, present and speak publicly about the Master/slave lifestyle and journey, as they are the spokes people for the community at each level.
